Festive Stories and Songs Yana Bolder
Harry “Bing” Crosby (1903-1977) is best known for the timeless Christmas hit White Christmas, which he recorded in 1942.
Of the single and record on which the song appeared, Crosby sold a record 100 million copies. Crosby was especially popular in the years between 1930 and 1960.
He was an innovator who developed a new, laid-back, quintessentially American vocal style (“crooning”) and thus was a major influence on younger singers such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
Also, Crosby was one of the first artists to record their radio shows, thus creating a breakthrough in radio and recording technology.
In addition to being a singer, Crosby was also beloved as an actor.
His best-known films are Going My Way (1944) and The Bells Of St. Mary (1945).
